Monthly Meetings

Carmarthen U3A meets on the last Thursday of each month, with the exceptions of August and December, at St Peter’s Outdoor Bowling Club, (off St Peter’s car park) Carmarthen, SA31 11N at 1.15p.m. for 2pm.

We also hear from a guest speaker.

There is no charge for admission and non members are welcome to come along for a “trial run” to see if they would like to join U3A. Tea and biscuits are available from 1.15pm  for a small fee.

The AGM was held at the Bowling Club on Thursday May 30th with reports from each of the Group Leaders which can be seen here.

AGM audience

In June, on Thursday the 27th ( 1.15pm for 2.00pm),  the speaker was Stephen Cox presenting on ‘The busy life of bees’.

In July – before the August recess – the speaker was Penny David talking about “Rooted in History, Parks & Gardens in Carmarthenshire” . In spite of the hot weather and the holiday season there was large audience of over 40 members.

In September on Thursday 26th the subject was ‘Decluttering and Hoarding’ and the speaker will be Kate O’Dell. She recommended the book “Overcoming Compulsive Hoarding: why you save and how you can stop’ by Fugen Neziroglu et al.

In October on Thursday 31st the subject will be ‘Mind’ by Roger Rastall.

Penny David talking about Gardens at the July meeting

Over recent years during the monthly meetings we have seen some amazing magic from Tyweli Griffiths, heard about Carmarthen Town’s proposed development and the pedestrianisation of King’s Street,  together with upgrading the Jackson’s Lane area, the Wales Air Ambulance, the challenge of being a chaplain in Iraq, learnt about the flora and animal life in the West of Ireland’s “The Burren” , the Suffrage movement in Carmarthen and been told about the work of the Dog’s Trust.

The Speaker’s Secretary is Judy Taylor and can be contacted via

Sunday Lunch

In July Sunday lunch took place on the 21 st at the Kings Arms, Llansaint  (12.30 pm). The arrangements were coordinated by Chris Driver. The lunch organiser can be contacted for further information via

Terry Cook is organising the Sunday lunch for 17th November at the Holly Brook Country Inn, Bronwydd at 12.30 for 13.00. Terry can be contacted for further information via

Spring Coffee Morning

The Spring Coffee Morning took place as planned on Thursday 11th April 2019 from 10.30 am in the Bowling Club. Standard admission fee was £2.00. There was a raffle and a quiz with loads of prizes for the winners. It seemed as if everyone was a winner! The drinks and cakes were free and the choice was mouth-watering.

Cakes to die for!

It was a lovely social occasion. A big thank you to Marie Geary and others for organising things

We look forward to seeing as many members as possible on these occasions –  do bring along any friends who would like to know more about U3A and perhaps joining us. Volunteers are always welcome for tea-making duties. We would be delighted to have your help! Contact Marie Geary.

Lots of nice home-made cakes
