Breaking News re AGM
The much delayed AGM took place as planned on Friday 4th June 2021. The interim committee was confirmed as the new group to take the organisation forward. There are still vacancies on the committee and we would love to hear from members who feel they could make a contribution. There are plenty of support roles apart from the main ‘officer’ positions. Don’t hesitate – we would love to hear from you
In ‘normal’ times Carmarthen U3A meets on the last Thursday of each month, with the exceptions of August and December, at St Peter’s Outdoor Bowling Club, (off St Peter’s car park) Carmarthen, SA31 11N at 1.15p.m. for 2pm.
We also hear from a guest speaker.
There is no charge for admission and non members are welcome to come along for a “trial run” to see if they would like to join U3A. Tea and biscuits are available from 1.15pm for a small fee.
The AGM was held at the Bowling Club on Thursday May 30th with reports from each of the Group Leaders which can be seen here.
In June, on Thursday the 27th ( 1.15pm for 2.00pm), the speaker was Stephen Cox presenting on ‘The busy life of bees’.
In July – before the August recess – the speaker was Penny David talking about “Rooted in History, Parks & Gardens in Carmarthenshire” . In spite of the hot weather and the holiday season there was large audience of over 40 members.
Over recent years during the monthly meetings we have seen some amazing magic from Tyweli Griffiths, heard about Carmarthen Town’s proposed development and the pedestrianisation of King’s Street, together with upgrading the Jackson’s Lane area, the Wales Air Ambulance, the challenge of being a chaplain in Iraq, learnt about the flora and animal life in the West of Ireland’s “The Burren” , the Suffrage movement in Carmarthen and been told about the work of the Dog’s Trust.
